2001 Avalon Issues

I have 2 issues with my 2001 Avalon with 132,000 miles:

1. Exactly what will correct my check engine light with a MIL code P1135, "manufacturer controlled fuel air mixture"? I have replaced the O2 sensors, so that's not it. It's not a California car.

2. Just did a brake job. New front/rear pads and machined all 4 rotors. Bled brakes, new fluid. Replaced guts to master cylinder with factory M.S. rebuild kit. My brakes should be perfect - but they are not. Pedal is not stellar, but does not feel like air (bled them heavily). No hard pedal, like I'm using the backup system from the master cyl instead of the primary system. I can't make the brakes lock up if that tells you anything. I have checked everything, and I feel like I'm a pretty accomplished (amateur) mechanic. So what the heck am I doing wrong? I did not rebuild any wheel cylinders.

1135 is A/F sensor HEATER CIRCUIT malfunction B1S1. Since you replaced the B1S1 sensor, did you check the resistance of the heater relay before replacing ithe sensor?

Did you check the A/F sensor HEATER relay in the fuse box by the battery before replacing the sensor? It's marked A/F HTR.

The brake issue sounds like unequal pressure. If a caliper is not sliding properly you'll overwork the outboard pad and underwork the inboard. Sometimes vice versa. Maddening and you want to push the pedal through the floor. Sylube the sliders, check that the bushings on the caliper pins are in place and the rubber bellows is not folding in when the caliper slides. Double check the torque. Sometimes a small piece of rust can be right where you don't want it!
Keep us posted.
