I have a 2000 XLS, with every option except the heated seats. Now we live in a colder climate, and I would like to add them.
1) can anyone tell me if the car is "pre-wired" for this option? I can buy a replacement panel for the dash with the Heated Seat Switches, but this would only work if the wiring is there already.
2) has anyone added this option? How abouot the aftermarket ones availaable?
Thanks for your inputs.

Reason: Success !!
I think you just need to buy the seats that have that option and it should be prewired but I'm not really sure, I was very close to changing my seats for leather but it was a bit expensive and unnesesary.
heated seats use soooo much power. which in turns burn more gas.. cheaper to run heater.. if thats not enough.. than u need to get your heater system checked.. cuz they get really HOT lol
the XLS should come prewired for the heated seats....there should even be a fuse for them in the dash as well (this is the case with my camry) and youd need to do the wiring, have switches, and tap the fuse....the heating elements should be in the seats tho....for those with the XL, adding custom leather from a company like katzkin, there is an option for heated seats with the leather for the seats

How much power do they use? I'm interested to know what % extra load they would actually put onto the electrical system - do you happen to know this by any chance?

guess i can get a new car with it and try it out at work.. when its slow and i remember.. but even small power usage will decrease mpg.. with gas prices now.. in a year.. u can save alot of money if u commute long distance
link is about Daytime Running Lights
but if having dimmed headlights decrease mpg than heated seats can do just as much.. im sure heated seats use more than a dimmed headlight
"The decrease in mileage due to the increased load on the alternator is very small, but it is still measurable. One one of the biggest proponents of DRLs, GM, asked for and received permission to disconnect DRLs when doing tests for their fuel economy ratings. "
maybe its just me.. but im one of those who drive 100miles total 5 days a week for work.. not sure if you already know how much and ready to prove me wrong by saying how little it uses.. but what i posted is more for FYI and nothing against what you are trying to do.. just informing
I'm just wanting to find out the actual load that heated seats will add - I think the OP wanted heated seats put into his car.
I drive over 300 miles a week for work - so I gas up every weekend usually. My ES gets an average of 26mpg with mixed driving - I have DRL disabled as a personalization option (not because they save me gas but I hate having it on all the time).
So yah, if you get a chance, I'd be quite interested to see how much drain heated seats are on the car.

so this thread goes from adding heated seats to how much power do they drain?
i doubt the OP cares about power drain if his ass is cold on leather seats in sub 30 degree weather
Seriously, if its that big a deal never use AC or heat ever, not to mention anything in your car that runs. The decrease in gas mileage is probably about 1 mile a tank.
Getting back to the original question regarding pre-wiring of 2000 Avalon. I have access to a new Clilmate Control module that has the switches for the heated seats, but I don't want to put the money into it if the wiring is not there. Can anyone confirm the presence of this wiring from the factory?
