Exclamation 2000 Console Stereo Removal Issues

We were trying to replace the factory stereo in the car today and ran across a few issues. It seems in the climate control module there are two tension based cords for the climate knobs. Wondering how these can be disconnected to allow for the unit to be pulled out and the stereo replaced. Can post pictures if needed

I had the pleasure of trying to put on the passenger side cable after it came off the temp control. I had to use a long reach needle nose plier and smaller hands.
If it comes off your hand WILL be bleeding from the metal behind the dash trying to reattach it. Funny how none of the manuals mentioned that.

Go under the driver's side and pull the carpet that is connected to the console out, you'll see the cable attached to a white plastic piece. Do the same thing on the passenger side, just pull out the carpet that is attached to the console out and you will see the cable, disconnect it by pulling it out. Sorry for the late post.
