The ATF spec is DexIII and there sure was a separate drain but NOT a fill plug on my '02.
Thanks to many posters here I got the info that you're asking about. The ATF drain is a 55 Torx and the differential drain is a hex. Don't remember the size. One unit fills the other on my application, but yours maybe different. Look for a fill plug up above the drain area toward the front. They both take ATF in the Avalon. I use Schaeffer's ATF, not because it is T-IV rated, it just shifts really well using it.

Thanks. I called dealer and they said there is a fill plug on top. I found one and used it. There is no way to check fluid level in differential but it looks like they are connected so level is the same. Dealer guy said there is seal and bearing between them.
