Question 2002 Avalon XL dealer service

Hi All-

Lot of great help and advice out there. Thank you in advance for your comments.

2002 Avalon XL, 57413 miles, no significant maintenance history.

Check engine light came on about 1 month ago. Took car in for dealer service, Champion Toyota Austin, TX. They repaired the following for $300.83:
- throttle body
- fuel injector service
- replace the fuel filter

The check engine light is still on. We were quoted an additional $401.79 to correct the check engine light. AF heater circuit code sensor B2/S1 (or something similar).

Can I get your advice on the following 2 questions:
1. were we over charged for the minimal work done? labor time totaled 2.6 hrs
2. is there any other (cheaper) method to correct the check engine light ?

thanks!
SB

They replaced the complete throttle body and fuel filter for this price, or did they just clean it? Don't understand, the repairs to date seem to have nothing to do with the trouble code.

If an A/F sensor, B2 S1 means Bank 2, Sensor 1. But this is not the real trouble code number. These is the first sensor on the rear bank of cylinders nearest firewall.

You can buy your own aftermarket sensor and intall it. Suggest the Denso brand as it seems to work better with Toyota. Try online sites such as www.rockauto.com and there are others.

Determine if the car is built to California or Federal emissions standards and be sure to get the right sensor. There should be a sticker on the hood with this info or at least the words CALIF, if such.

toyomoho-

thanks for the post.

The invoice indicates:
- DIAG COMPLETED FUEL INJECTOR FLUSH == $ 78.25
- 1 MOC-01621 EFI FLUSH == $ 26.70
- PREM THROTTLE BODY NFS == $ 8.95
- CLEAN THROTTLE BODY **0.8** == $ 71.00
- REPLACE FUEL FILTER == $ 59.97
- FILTER ASSY, FUEL == $ 39.98

LABOR AMT = $ 209.22
PART AMT = $ 75.63

Thanks for the info on the sensor. Will replacing the sensor automagically rid the check engine light?

Thanks,
SB

"automajically" says it all. Wish I had thought of that.
The warning lite can be turned off with a scan tool. The sensor corrects the problem that turned the CEL on.
