2 things wear out- cam lobe and shim. If Toyota engineers are smart and I think they are shims are made off softer steel than camshaft so I would expect only shims wear. I think turning shims upside down should do the job unless it was done already. I called dealership, they don't have shims in stock! I have to wait for next day delivery unless I order until 10.30 AM. By the way only front head valves are clicking, I will not do rear valves, no need for intake manifold removal- it shoud take only 30 min. I will have to make tool to hold valve down- no big deal, maybe screwdriver will work fine.

3 exhaust valves had .018; .019;.000 clearance. Supposed to be .010-.014
0 is not good. Hopefully valve is OK. Screwdriver worked fine but I had to buy 3 shims. $20. Good luck!

What mileage does this car have? Is the engine original to the car?

I just checked the lash on my 1996 Avalon with 180K miles. They were all within spec. The reason the dealer doesn't stock them is that under normal use, with regular oil changes, they don't wear.
