Plus size wheel and tire pressure check and recommendations?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to know what people set their tire pressure to? I know the recommended pressure is ~32psi but thats assuming you still keep the oem regular donut tires that came with the car. I have 16" wheels now and at 32psi, it looks and feels like my tires are slugging on the road surface. I feel like i should up the pressure to maybe 36psi.

Whats everyone's wheel size and tire pressure? Any suggestions/recommendation on this part?

Look at the tire side wall, there should be a maximum tire load rating (lb/kg) at a max air pressure (tire cold). This pressure is maximum you can safely inflate the tire (cold tire).

You can adjust the pressure to get the feel you want. If a radial tire it typically appears under inflated.

Watch the tires for signs of adverse tire wear, the inside or outside tread wearing faster. This can be a result of over or under inflated tires.

If you have a tread depth indicator (pick up a cheap digital caliper) you can measure tread wear and correct the tire pressure before the tread becomes too uneven.

2nd Generation

Hi..i can't find my old post...but any ways,
a good way is to search for the so called "chalk Method", which makes sure the tire wears are even after a few test run.

With my 01, i have 38.5 up front and 33.5 in the back
since i drive mostly by myself. If i am taking more than 2 poeple on to a trip, i bumped the rear up to 34.5

Just personal preference...for your reference..

with most tires rated at 55-60psi max, do u notice any difference with those pressures? i hate it when my car bottoms out in the rear, even on empty weight and new struts.

im thinking bout getting spacers to help a little with the rubbing issues against the strut/spring mounts and/or maybe thinner tires. right now i have 225/50/R16 front and 215/55/R16 in the back i think

Do you have a drawback in changing to 16 inch? I think the donut base tire/wheel combo are factors giving it a silent ride, aren't they?

yea the factory wheel/tire combo gives the car the quiet factor. There is a difference in road noise when i switched to 16's but not overly distracting. I had 18's before wrap is parada spec II's, they were pretty noisy.

Handling seems better though with my tires.
