Remove the rear seat by hand. There are 2 clips in the front that pull up, then the whole thing comes right out.

Remove the back seat by taking out the bolts seen here.

Great pics! Will these instructions work on a 99 Avalon XLS, Platinum edition? Thanks.

Thanks csaxon, I had same question. I will replace rear struts today, but first seat needs to come out.

Yes, they work fine for a 99 XLS except there are 3 clips on the seat section.

2001 avalon rear Mcperson strut replacement

My car is a 2001 Avalon the rear seat has 2 clips for seat and 4 bolts, 1 bolt on each side and 2 for seat belts that all attach to the rear of seat. You really have to push up on the rear of seat to get out but this was good advise. My actual job was installing rear Mcpherson struts which was no problem. If you do the job do yourself a favor and buy the Gabriel ready mount from Autozone or others. The complete package includes the strut, mounting bracket and spring all together. There is no need to compress spring and reuse. Plus there was additional noise dampening hose and rubber on the spring my original didn't have.
