Spark plugs and code 1135

Hi All,

First time poster. I recently replaced the iridium plugs on my 2000 Avalon at 106,000 miles. Old ones were NGKs, gapped at about .040 and I replaced with NGKs but gapped to .043 as per specifications from NAPA. I changed the front 3 one day and two days later replaced the back 3. The next day CEL came on. I had codes scanned and came up with P1135 and P1130. From searching this forum, it appears that my bank 1 sensor 1 0xygen sensor is bad. This is the one in the rear of engine, next to fire wall. I'm able and willing to change it but hesitant due to cost ( about $200) if it is not the right fix. It seems strange that CEL triggered.

Anyone with similar experience or just a coincidence?

Unusual, but it may just be a coincidence. Did you move the sensor wire harness around when you changed the plugs? Wiggle the harness and check the connector is secure.

Coincidence. Spark plugs and heater circuits have nothing to do with each other.

Thanks all. I'll recheck that sensor connector is tight, and if that does not do the trick, I'll replace the sensor.

how difficult are the rear plugs to change? Did you do it from the top of the engine or from below? Any tips on replacing the rears? thanks

Back 3 were far harder than front three. I did from top of engine. Had to remove the PCV valve and push hose out of way to get left one. Also removed two grounding wires on left side, near PCV valve. Hardest part, believe it or not, was getting the electrical connections apart while reaching behind everything. Once you remove the 10mm hold down bolt, you have to be creative in getting the plug wire/coil out since it is so long and there's not much room to work with. Rear Center and left plug wires were hardest to reach and work out. Rear right plug wire was easiest.

As follow-up to my 02 sensor, I still have not changed it and light is still in. I drove about 600+ miles these last few days into mountains of Vermont (Stowe area) and back to CT. No loss of power. Negligable change in fuel mileage. I'm getting part this week but make me wonder....

any codes that you can post? i had a bad M.A.F. sensor giving me a headache for several months. check the code to see what bank it is on. i would suggest moving the ignition coils to the other bank to see if the problem moves, depending on the code of course. i had a bad maf sensor telling me i was rich on bank 2. replaced the maf and all hesitation and codes went away. those back 3 are not fun, but do-able
