Question Rare suspension noise Fix?

I bought a used 01 recently with 76K on it. When ever i go over a pot hole the rare suspension or struts seems to make a noise like some thing is loose and bouncing in my trunk. the dealer says the struts needs to be replaced and quoted $800.
On other forums i have read some issue with sway bar bushing causing this problem.
is there a fix that i can do it myself with out spending so much, I just bought and dont want to put too much money into it. The things that i have done with cars is change oil, breaks, rotors and yes once I had changed the starter on my old maxima

thanks

There are bushings for the swaybar that can be replaced if that is the cause. Were you on uneven road surface when it makes the noise? How about going straight over a speed bump?

Thanks for the reply. yes it makes the noise only on potholes, uneven rough road. If i go straight over a speed bump it dose not make the noise.

though if my windows are down i can hear the hydrolic swish kind of noise from the suspensions when i go over speed bumps depending on how big the bump is, should i be worried about the hydrolic kinda noise it only happens on speed bumps.

Thanks,

If that is the case, the swaybar bushings are most likely the cause since that is when the swaybar comes into play. You can verify by checking for play in the rear swaybar in their bushings. The bushings are fairly simple and straight foreward to replace. Don't forget to check the swaybar links on each ends too.

It is a fairly easy and straight forward repair; the brackets that hold the bushing are retained by four bolts, two on each one. After you remove the brackets, the bushing are right there for your removal.

I am not aware of any link that would show you how it is done. Maybe do a search on this site, it is possible that there is an earlier thread about that.
