Canada Relay draining my battery

My uncle has a 2002 Avalon - not sure of the package, but he is having an issue with a relay that sometimes clicks after shutting the engine offl.

This doesn't happen every time, but it has been runnning the battery down.

Toyota can not seem to find the problem.

What he does do is pull the relay at night to get around this.

I will get more info from him re: where it's located, but is there any known issues to drive straight to the problem?

Thank you for your effort - I know I just registered specifically for this question but do drive a '03 Toyota Vibe (lol)

Replace the relay , there might be an internal fault in it and it sticks at times, and if pulling it take care of the issue....well there a good chance that the fix

Probably the EFI relay, maybe? If that is the relay, check the unlock warning switch for the ignition lock cylinder.

Toyota 'Vibe'? Thought that was a Pontiac!

I will talk to my uncle today and pass on the advice - If it's so simple as to just replace the relay, I don't know why the stealership hasn't already - but the ignition lock cylinder sounds a little more obscure.

and New eCHo - I call my vibe a toyota because it is everywhere it counts - and having driven an AWD Matrix before this 5 spd, if it weren't for the triangle in the steering wheel you wouldn't know the difference.

It isn't the relay that is bad, it is what is causing the relay to stay on that is the difficulty in resolving the problem.

I was just teasing you about the 'Vibe', it is after all make mostly by Toyota.

I wanted to update everyone. After scouring Toyota Nation and other Googling endlessly, I have finally pinpointed my problem and fixed my problem. I replaced both the ignition switch ~$79 and the switch assy, unlock or key sense switch ~$21. I am sure it was the ~$21 part, but I didn't want to take any chances since I had disassembled my dash to get to the ignition switch. I didn't have to remove the ignition switch assy, it was a tight fit to work, the air duct was in the way, but I managed. I am proud to report my problem is now fixed. So no more clicking, no more draining batteries.
