what is the difference between the XLS and XL Avalon, looking at them in the 2002 versions, any problems to be aware of?? thanks.

I think just the level of trim separates the two. Wheel size maybe also.

Problems? - yeah engine sludge in the pre '03 models.

trim package is the only difference another problem to look out for is a leaking rack & pinion.

16 inch wheels, possibility of slipping and sliding of bodies due to leather seats, Electronic A/C buttons, XLS symbols, sunroof, 6 speakers JBL system(awesome). Sludge problems? I haven't notice that in my 2001 XL with almost 190,000 miles. I use Castrol anti-sludge motor oil. The only 2 problem I ever have with the car is the driver's strut mount going out and the IAC Valve needing to clean out.

The XLS just has more bells and whistles that came as standard equipment. No recurring issues with mine, and the only individual equipment failures over the years have been a failed driver's door power window motor and a failure in the ignition system. No biggies. It's a smooth riding car.
