2002 XLS Wipers Not Returning

I have a 2002 XLS and my windshield wipers are not returning to their starting position. There was a little snow under them when they went back, they stayed above the snow (like they knew where it was) without touching it. Stayed about an inch above the snow. But now that the snow is gone, it stays in the same place no matter what I do. It looks funny because the wiper arms are about 3 inches above the bottom of the windshield. I've even tryed pressing on them.

Has anyone ever had this happen or know of a fix?

thanks,

Joe

Are they touching the windshield? Do they feel loose?

There could be two possibilities, the wiper arms came loose or the wiper link is in snow mode, which allow the wiper arms to stay a couple inches above the normal park position. Check your owner's manual, it shoudl mention something about that. If it is in snow mode, you can reset it by pushing both wiper arms down at the same time.

N.E.O.

do you have an owners manual? in the manual for my "00 it talks about the snow position. says to just grab the drivers side and pull up, keeping it a few inches above the hood. and when no longer needed to push it back down til it clicks. should be the same for yours. sounds like it pulled up when it encountered the snow and you should be able to push it down. i've done it on mine and it takes a pretty good force to do it
