Timing Belt, Tensioner, pulleys Quality

I'm get ready to order parts to do my timing belt replacement. 2000 Avalon with 139k miles, its the first belt change.
I want to get good quality parts, and like the kit idea of a belt, water pump, pulleys, tensioner, and seals.
The question: Does anyone have a recommmendation on manufactures to stay away from when I get these parts? Anyone recommend a specfic brand?
Where is a good place with fair prices to get this type of stuff.
Thank You in advance......

Try Rockauto at www.rockauto.com. Do a search of the TN site for their posting as I think they are a sponser. The post would list a number for getting 5% off. Rockauto would sell decent parts or a kit.

Ebay sells kits but suggest you write the seller and ask who the vendors are.

I don't use Conti-Tech belts as in my experience they are noisy.

The Camry with V6 option has the same engine.

Get your parts from the dealership. They arent as expensive as you may think, and the new t-belt comes with timing marks on it..... super eay to get it right.

Timing Belt, Tensioner, pulleys Quality

Did 1st timing belt change this week on 1999 Avalon with 150K miles.

I purchased Belt (Mitsuboshi), & tensioner (NSK), idler (Koyo) from Autopartsway. The original parts removed from the car were made by the EXACT manufacturers for each replacement. I saved over $70 by purchasing from autopartsway. New MBL timing belt had all the markings for easy installation.

If you insist on buying from dealer, one good dealership is Mechanicsville Toyota, Mechanicsville, VA. I have purchased water pump (I didn't know what brand to trust!), Oxygen sensors(cheaper from dealer than outside), misc seals from them in the past.

Just registered on this site to see what else I will need for the timing belt replacment. '01 Avalon with 155k. Looks like I got here just in time to see this thread.

I'm guessing I'll need the timing belt, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, water pump, water pump gasket, and seals. Speaking of the seals, which seals will I need? Oil Seal? Inner gasket? Would anyone also replace the thermostat while doing all of this?

Thanks for the link!! They're a little cheaper than Conicelli Toyota parts, where I usually order from.

Bob Bridge Toyota has very good discounts.

http://www.1sttoyotaparts.com/

Change the camshaft seal it exits the head for the pulley (one per head). The oil pump is turned by the crankshaft. The seal is behind the timing belt pulley on the crank.

Cheap insurance on replacing the T-stat. Use a Toyota brand, cost more but they are well built.

The AutoZone website has info on replacing the belt in their vehicle repair section.

Thanks for the reply. So just the two camshaft seals for the timing belt job?

I didn't even notice the dates in this thread. Looks like the Avalon section is kinda slow, which is surprising given it's a performance sedan.

I just get these from my invoice from Mechanicsville Toyota (804-559-8717), Mechanicsville, VA 23111. You can google to get their website. However, part #'s are not listed.

water pump assembly 16100-29085 ----------$90.53
Belt, ---------------90080-91088-83 ------------$7.86
belt …..................90916-02401-83 $17.81
Seal, ty ------------90311-40022-----------------$5.77
seal, ty -------------90311-38034----------------$5.80 get 2 of these

Fuel filter ---------23300-20040----------------$26.30
(not related to timing. however, I decided to replace)

The belts mentions above are Power steering belt & alternator belts. Water pump from dealer comes with the gasket. Most other places don't include it with the water pump. There is a part # for the fuel filter also, which I decided to replace.

Besides above items, I purchased
(1)Timing Belt (MBL - OEM of Toyota. Autopartsway lists 2 items for the belt. Both are by Mitshuboishi (MBL), Toyota OEM. However, one was listed next to it "OEM" & cost almost double the price of the other one. Both has the same Autoparts way part #. However, the otherone had all the OEM markings as well. MBL is the exact belt removed from my 99 Avalon.
(2) & (3) Upper & lower Ilders were Koyo(bought from autopartsway), & NSK(I bought an OEM from e-bay, however, you can get Koyo from them).

Thanks for the details!! I'll be ordering parts next week.

I already have the fuel filter and the spark plugs. I think I can do the fuel filter myself. I'm embarassed to say that I have no idea how I would be able to change the back 3 plugs, or even how to blow out the area before pulling the plugs. Might be easier to pull the engine to change the plugs.

Changing Rear Spark Plugs
Removing the Intake manifold & bunch of wiring harness would help. There are special spark plug sockets/wrench available (I bought it @ Can tire, Ontario on sale for $15). Even with that it is quite a task to remove them. It is also quite important to put the newone with the right torque. Check the instruction (ie: quarter turn or less or more.. Have to be really careful, because engine in made of aluminum).

If you have any inkling about valve cover change, do it at once. You have to take manifold , etc....real pain.

I found a weblink to see part #'s. For the part #'s ,

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_199...PGKK_2501.html

select the correct vehicle & print the req'd diagram. This will help you when ordering. However, verify prt #'s as (1) these could be the original #'s & replace could be different.(2) could be totally wrong.

Mechanicsville Toyota website for part prices.

Compare prices with other dealerships as well. I found these guys part prices are pretty good.
