Transmission fluid needs replaced after 3000 miles.

Hello all,
I had recently taken my car in for an oil change and was informed that the transmission fluid needed to be replaced. However I had it done about 10 months ago and have only driven the car about 3000 miles since...? (90 percent of these miles are freeway miles) Is this the sign of major transmission troubles?

I have a 2000 Avalon with about 66k miles.

Any ideas? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Did they say why they thought it should be changed (because it makes them money?)?

I would not think it would need changing so soon. Pull the dipstick and blot a bit on a white napkin. Is it dark in color or more like cherry cough syrup? Dark is bad, cough syrup good. Smell it. Does it smell burnt?

its recommended service intervals, they will say you need "this and that" regardless if you've had such services done since they assume that if you brought your car in to them, then you must not have had any service done to your car.
