Vibration Problem, 2001 Vxi Avalon

Hello everyone. i need some help with identifying a problem on my avalon, theres a vibration which you can feel between 80 to 100, through the whole car, initially i thought it was the wheels and needed to change a set. Once i did that got all the wheels balanced and the vibration is still there, but heres the catch. it comes randomly, for eg. today morning, driving to work it was quite vividly there but on my way home it was absolutely smooth! could any one clarify what could be wrong? and it happens at random too, theres been a week where it was smooth and then went all vibratie again... Its done 143,000kms and got the brake rotors machined at 135k could it possibly be the CV joints? Thanks again to everyone

Cheers

Jude

Here's some obvious, dumb, but necessary questions to start.

Where does it feel the most prevalent? In the steering wheel, the seat of your pants?

Does any other adverse effects take place? pulling to one side, loud noises, smells, etc.

Do you notice when you are on a certain stretch of road, or in one lane versus another, like your daily commute to work? Could it be uneven road surface in the slow lane caused by trucks, then when in the fast lane you dont notice it, causing you to think it is random?

What tires are on the car? I had to have mine rebalanced a few times after getting new Goodyear tires installed because of this same thing, except that it wasnt random...

Just some things to think about. Let us know more detail.

Well it feels like its in the chassi, nothing different on the steering, not pulling to one side, no funny smells, no loud noises, i read your post this morning and tried hopping on all the possible lanes i could, and it was fairly consistant , but then it went, and havent had it for the rest of today, A friend sad could be possibly irregular lug nuts, and the ones i have are the originals, but thought i'd get it checked anyway, and yes i have good year tires as well, and i might take your advice on getting them balanced again if this continues.. Thanks for the quick reply will let u know wht happens with the lug nuts tomorrow. Only thing that did stand out is when i washed the car and the water hit the front Disks it turned to steam, but i drove it for about 15 min before washing, is it normal for it to get that hot? thanks!

Cheers

Thanks for the details. I think you will find the balancing to help some, if not all.

As for the brakes, on the Avalon and Camry they have been known to be troublesome, but not in the area of getting extraordinarily hot. I have been trying to get mine to stop squeaking for over a year now to no avail, but have only noticed extreme temperatures on one of them at one time.

It might be related on your issue, but I dont know. Regardless, have someone check it out when they balance your tires. For what its worth, I have Goodyear Comfort Treads on mine. They are a heavier tire than normal, which caused the unbalance initially. After rebalancing they are fine.

Good luck.

A seized caliper could do this. Raise car and see if all wheels turn free.
