2001 Avalon – Parts for correcting a P0446

I’ve spent several hours scouring this forum and the Internet trying to determine which parts are needed/available in order to fix my P0446 error code. It appears that one must purchase an entire Charcoal Canister ($221.00 was the lowest price I found) in order to get the VSV (Vapor Pressure Sensor). I read on some Camry forums that one may purchase just the VSV but I have yet to find that part listed on any Avalon part sites. I’d like to just replace the VSV as that is the likely culprit not to mention that part will likely be considerably lower in cost. Does anyone have experience with this? If so, I would be interested in learning the part# or Web site where you purchased just the VSV. And, no I’m not that interested in heading to a bone yard to look for said part.

Thanks for any help!

I too could not find the VSV only for my 2001 Avi. I ended up spending the $200+ for the entire canister and replacing it.

If you do, it can be a real.... well, you know. But it does solve the problem. Make sure you jack up the passenger side rear, let the suspension hang so you can wiggle it out, and the new one in, between the exhaust and the axle.

You can get just a VSV for a Avalon....dont know part # but I think it's the same as Camry. Should be around $60.00 You dont need vapor pressure sensor, you need the vapor pressure vacuum switching valve.

Did some additional searching and found part #9008091233 referenced on some forums. I located the part at the below site.

Any idea if this is the correct part? I want to be certain as I know there is another VSV which goes in the engine bay. Darn confusing emissions!

While I was struggling with the canister to fit between the exhaust and the axle, a Toy tech walked by the lift and "moved" the exhaust out of its hanger allowing more room and easy installation.
I was impressed. Grateful too.
