Here is the Executive Summary:
I broke the bottom half of the mounting bracket that holds the movement control rod. What is the bottom half called?
Here is the longer version:
I done a few timing belts in the past. First time on a Toyota (02 Avalon). Having fun so far. I broke something today getting down to the belt.
I am following the haynes book. It had me lift the engine a bit and remove the engine movement control rod. No problem. Came right off. It also had me remove the bracket that the control rod mounts to.
The bracket is in 2 parts... when I removed the looong bolts from the top section of the bracket, I was able to pull that top part away. That left the bottom part that the timing belt passes through.
What is
that part called? The bottom half of the 2 part bracket. (It looks like I can remove it only after I remove the crankshaft pulley and lower cover.)
As I removed the long bolts from the top part of the bracket... CRACK!... clatter. The threaded section of the bottom part of that bracket broke. Now there is nothing for the long bolt to grab onto on that side. Sad times.
Anyone know what my broken part is called? I want to call around and find one. I'm sure it's something the dealership will have to order. Doughnuts to the local parts department who carries
that part!
I'll take a photo tomorrow morning of the carnage and post it here.
Edit:
Here are some horrible cell phone "photos". I couldn't find my garage camera...arg.

The bottom part of the bracket. Notice the brokenness. Good job me.

The top part. Not broken.

The long bolt.
I bought a nut for the bolt, and a slightly longer bolt/nut incase I need a temporary work around...but I'd rather just find the replacement.
