I've read a few posts that say it is usually a wiring problem when you get that code. I guess you've traced that all around?

I've read some that say just splice the "good" sensor into both inputs of the ECU. Sounds weird though...I mean, they put those sensors in for a reason, right?

I clear that code every hundred miles or so on my 2001 avalon. Coming up on smog check though, so I'll have to do something soon.

This site (http://www.findonefindall.com/toyota...ock_sensor.htm) was interesting.

knock sensor code

we replaced both knock sensors on the avalon that we had in the shop and fixed the concern you have to pull the intake to access the sensors the knock sensors checked good with the only tests we could find to do but i was told the the knock sensors make a low voltage when it detects a knock sound.

Hmmm...still wonder then if it was just the wiring in some way that got fixed when you pulled them out. Oh well...at least your customer is happy
