Problem with JBL sub in 2000 Avalon

Hey, I am new to the site and this is my first post. I recently inherited a 2000 Avalon from my dad, and it's a great car except the rear sub is blown out. I have read in other posts that you can replace it with another JBL sub from the dealer, but I don't want to do that because it will just blow again. I'm more interested in putting some "real" subs in the trunk of the car. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

get an amp, sub, amp wiring kit. if you have after market head unit run it from RCA connections from the head unit. or if you have the stock head unit run the wires from the stock woofer to the new amp input. if you don't want to go through all that find a 8-inch low wattage woofer and replace the stock.

best way is to get a aftermarket head unit and install your amp and woofers.

2nd Generation

this my setup i love it. amp is behind woofer. it is a kicker comp 12inche sealed box. with a crunch audio P500.2 sorry don't remember wiring harness but it is bypassing the stock amp.
edit: if u want better pics i can get them. oh and its bolted to the seat as u don't want a 60 pound thing flying around in a accident.

Cool

Your sub may not be blown but may merely have damage to the foam ring around the woofer. It's a common problem with 00, 01 Avys and it's about $30-$60 fix.

However, since you're interested in adding more subs, I'd suggest checking out this and this for an awesome tutorial on adding boxes in the trunk.

same thing happened to mine. I went out and bought a memphis pr 8" and put it in the factory spot with factory amp. works well enough, way better than stock. could put another amp in there but I don't want that much "bump" in my trunk.'
