Oil Pressure Light Problem
Have 03 Avalon with 108,000 miles and I am not original owner.
The other day the engine oil pressure warning light came on intermittently, so local dealer's service dept. tested original oil-pressure-sending unit & found it defective. So I said OK replace it, and now light is on most of the time. NOW service dept. says: (1) tear engine apart & hope to find problem -OR- (2) buy a new engine. These alternatives seem a bit extreme to me. Isn't there something else that can be done or checked? Any additives? Any advice? Would pulling the oil pan off offer any information?
Local dealer also told me they found that this vehicle had been "in" at a dealer somewhere during warranty period for "oil sludge treatment". Do I need to obtain more specific info on when, where & what was done?
