Question multi-informational display

Took our 2001 Avalon XLS to local mechanic for regular tune-up. We moved away from our terrific mechanic who we had used for years (car has 183K miles on it) and so this was the first time we used this particular guy. Because the car is long past warranty, we haven't gone to a Toyota Dealer in years, although we request Toyota parts.

When I picked up the car, the multi-informational display panel is blank. Nothing. And my heater/Ac is showing celcius.

I asked this mechanic if he could reset these things, he said, "just follow the instructions in your owners' manual." Well, I looked and there is nothing about how to turn the display back on, nor is there any info about resetting the ac to F. I have tried everything.

I called him back and he said I'd have to take it to the Toyota Dealer since something has broken.

It was FINE when it went in. Never ever had a problem. The dealer won't look at it for less than $105, plus charges for for the actual fixing.

Is this something we can fix ourselves?

BTW, I won't be going back to this mechanic !

Try pushing the "Light" button below the display.

Thanks. Just tried it, but nothing happens.
Also, still not sure how to change from celsius on the heat/ac.

How could just checking the codes screw up this stuff??? Did he really have to disconnect the battery ? And is that why the display is now dead ?

This AM I talked to another alleged Toyota mechanic who said my P1150 and P1155 codes don't necessarily mean O2 sensors and could mean "blah blah blah blah...." I have no idea.

Have to get the car fixed because we won't drive it with the engine light on, but very concerned with getting the right mechanic.

Are we destined to go back to the dealer, who will overcharge, attempt to sell us a new car, but might/maybe fix it properly ???

Where in California are you located? If you're in So Cal, I know a good mechanic in Gardena/Hawthorne area.

Go to an auto parts store and get someone to read the code and let us know the nunber. Also, I'd check the fuses for the display issue.
