Should I give my 01 avalon time to warm up in the morning?

I keep hearing different viewpoint on the topic..some say it's better for the engine if i warm it up and some say the opposite...I have a remote start kit installed but it must not have been installed right because in addition to starting the engine 7/10 times it also makes the stock alarm go off whenever I try to use it..I am goin to go back to the place where I had it installed and get that problem fixed I just need to know if all of this was worth it. i own a xls btw if that matters at all..thx

Depends on how cold the outside air temperature is, which, if it's below freezing outside can affect the performance of a manual transmission. Your owners manual should have information about cold weather starting procedures. Generally, though, for above freezing temps it's fine to drive away immediately, just keep your driving mellow till the engine and transmission completely warm up. It's also a good idea in cold weather to ride your brakes a little bit (like down your street to the end of the block) to help warm up the rotors. If you get up to a high speed and have to stop suddenly you run the risk of warping your brake rotors. It's a simple way to prevent that from happening. Happy motoring.

ok appreciate the info. another question... does it hurt anything when I leave the car idling for 5 mins in below freezing temps with the heat on? someone told me that having the heat on soon as you start the car can be bad for it

Having the heat on prevents the engine from heating up as quickly. Let the engine warm up 1st then engage the heat....
