2001 avalon starting problem

Some times it will start in P when it dosen't If I put it in neutral it will start.
Any ideas?

neutral safety switch

Thanks for telling us what the root problem was. Sometimes you just have to hang around for a few days or weeks for someone who has been over that bridge to comment. I have been around awhile and I didn't think of that, but it makes sense. Tell me, was the car cranking and no start, or just no crank?

It would not crank.Cleaned the neutral saftey switch now it works.
