2003 Avalon Refill Tank

This is my first time using the forum.

Does anyone know why when I pump full gas tank the car dies once with in 20 miles? What can I do to fix this?

If I pump half tank it doesn't die.

(Before the car dies it jerks badly.)

Has anyone else heard of this problem or has experienced it?

(I am the first owner of the 2003 Avalon)

i too own an 03 avy with around 68K on it. i ran it down to 8 miles the other day and t was still going. i thought it was a estimate anyways but always on the high end tho. like if you had 130 remaining on the thing,,, it really meant like 135 so if it ran down, youd have like 5 or so left. odd problem tho... maybe its the sensor?

"Full tank"

Are you continuing to fill the tank once the gas pump clicks off?
Topping off, as it sometimes called.

Once the gas pump clicks off I just take it out. Nope, I don't top off.

It sounds like you're getting a vaccuum in the gas tank (low pressure.) Try removing the gas cap when there is the problem. If you hear a sucking air sound, the cause is confirmed. Any shop should help you get it fixed.

I agree.. a new gas cap MIGHT do the trick, and it's cheap.
Get back to us and tell us what happened.
