My dad tried to go this route for his 2004, it was very expensive to do so for only 1 extra feature not to mention its difficult to get a hold of and in the end we just replaced the JBL unit for a double DINN Pioneer deck for a bit more since he needed the bluetooth.
If you don't want to ditch the JBL system, the cheapest route is to buy a cassette adapter it may not charge the iPod but it will perform much better than awful FM transmitters. Keep in mind the JBL cassette player itself isn't the most durable thing, my dad's unit started having trouble ejecting the adapter after frequent use.
