VSC and VCS OFF lights on !!!

two weeks back the VSC OFF and VSC lights came on, then two weeks after that the check engine light came on. Can someone tell me what vsc off and vsc is and is it crucial for to get it fixed? does anyone know a place in Georgia where i can go to fix it other than the dealer.

Thanks

I'd suggest using the "Search This Forum" feature to the upper right of the forum page and search for past threads on about VSC. There have been numerous past threads addressing the issue.

VSC is vehicle stabilty control. But I suspect these lights are a red herring. I had the exact same thing last fall. VSC Off and On plus CEL. It was an Air Fuel Ratio Sensor (sometimes people refer to it as an 02 sensor). don't know why it set off that combo of lights but it did. When I read the OBDII codes it pointed to one of the A/F sensors. My regular independant mechanic fixed it. But the part was expensive - $200 or $300(canadian) just for the new sensor.

After the VSC and VSC Off lights the CHE came on, so it is the O2 Sensor that is creating this problem then i can just go to a mechanic and change the sensor and it be cleared correct !

I would recommend you have the mechanic scan to see what codes your Avy is throwing and go from there. On mine, the codes pointed directly to the O2 sensor and once replaced the VSC, VSC Off and Check Engine all were the result of this bad sensor.

It set off VSC and VSC OFF along with the CEL because when the system finds a fault aka though CEL, it turns into a fail-safe mode causing VSC and VSC OFF effectively turning VSC off.

I got in touch with a toyota mechanic near my place and he checked for me and he said that the steering angle sensor needs replacing and he said if i change the sensor, i might have to get the sensor ECU. He didn't tell the price for all this but the way he put it sounds expensive has anybody changed these two parts ? about how much did it cost ?

thanks

I took the avalon to another private mechanic they confirmed what timbits93 and other stated that when check engine light comes on the vsc and vsc off comes on. so thanks for all the help. Oh the check engine came on for the mass air flow sensor to be changed.

Do you know the code that the check engine light generated?
