2000 Avalon - gas tank issue

We have a 2000 Toyota Avalon,
when we try to fill the gas tank up recently, the pump click off very soon.. No matter how we adjust the pump, the pump click in every few minutes...
any ideas? probably will need to take it to the shop..

Start here with the vent hose. The small hole is connected to the venting system which sometimes plugs up with dirt or spider webs etc..

The small hole is the top of this skinny vent tube.

The skinny vent tube ends in a rubber fuel line to the charcoal canister.

Disconnect the rubber hose and snake a wire through the metal pipe or try compressed air to blow it out. If that doesn't work then you may have a bad vent check valve on the charcoal canister.

For a couple of days now, I have noticed a gas smell whenever I would stop the car and first get out of it. Then just this morning it threw some check engine codes (p0440, p0441, and p0446). I'm guessing maybe this is related to the canister you mentioned?

Yes but start with the gas cap and make sure it seals. Also possible causes..Over fill check valve in fuel tank leaking, charcoal canister flooded with fuel, ccv-vsv stuck open
