2nd Generation Cosmetic Modifications for my Avalon

((Sorry for the wall of text!))

The Avalon is a gorgeous vehicle.
I am looking to make it look even more gorgeous (after I get that dent fixed...)

Where should I start?
I have a 2000, in the "Silver Spruce Metallic" color.

As it stands, I have the black little placeholders for where I want to put in fog lights.

I want some nice medium-mesh grilles (as opposed to a "tight" mesh light a Chrysler, or a "loose" mesh like a Chevy truck) for the upper and lower grille.

Generally, things to make it more sexy.

I will probably be doing them in order of how cheaply I can do it, and the difficulty/complexity of doing it. I am uafraid of trying new things, and the modifications would be purely cosmetic.

Any suggestions on what I should do to my Avalon?

Do you only have one wiper on your windshield?!

1) I put HID 8000K
2) I put LED license plate bulb (white)
3) currently waiting for LED strips to arrive to put it at my foot area and pass foot area
4) still thinking of ideas... maybe, yes maybe, LED strip on the open area between foglights or on Headlamp.

Haha, I have two wipers, one is just under the lip of the hood.

1) I read something about putting HIDs in a halogen lamp being bad because the halogen lamp's reflective surface makes the HID light splash all over the place and blind oncoming drivers. What's your take on this?

Also, I want to do some sort of color scheme with the headlights/foglights, but I can probably only get away with a slight tinge of blue or yellow, really limiting my choices there. Would it be worth my while to put, say, orange fog lights with an internal switch to turn them on, or do the typical blue/yellow that many people do?

2) I like the LED lights on the plate. I currently have a dull yellow. The white would look much cleaner.

3) LED strips in the foot area sounds brilliant. But I probably wouldn't put LED strips on the exterior. Except maybe LEDs under the door handles that would match the headlight/foglight/paint color scheme.

1) I never got flashed at. So i think its fine for the incoming drivers.
I have an XLS model, which comes with the foglights.. but i left it with halogen.. i saw cars with yellow, this smiley color: , halogen or HID in their foglights.

2) Its worth it to get LED lights on the plate. I have white but its a slight blue in it, but its white. I ordered them from ebay. i bought ones that are from china. its cheaper, I bought 2 bulbs for about $8 . after i bought it, i found cheaper ones . The one i bought has 12 LED (brighter). the cheaper ones has like 7 or lower LEDs in it. and ordered 2 strips, and now waiting for arrival.

3) I would put under the door handles but i dont know how to illuminate it when i push the unlock button. it probably will flash but not stay lit.

I thinking of putting it under the door panel, lights up the ground when open.

Here are (3)ideas i've come up with for the LED strip on the headlamp.

1) I may end up doing HIDs then. But does the reflection on the ground look terribly crossed and refracted? (A pic would be cool, too!)

3) Hmmm. Maybe if it was on a timer. Or just whenever the doors are unlocked so you'd know. Maybe some sort of switch attached to the driver-side locking mechanism the completes a circuit when it unlocks and the little door-lock-switch (inside the door) turns. That circuit would light up both the front doors.

Then if you tapped it twice to unlock the rear doors, the same system would be in the rear-left door locking mechanism to light up both rear doors. That would be SICK if they stayed lit!

Only problem is that you'd have to get IN the door. I don't know how tough that'd be.

And I have heard stories of police checking underneath a car for underglow. I don't think the LEDs under the door panel is legal, though. I don't know if you get through some sort of loophole if they only turn on if the door is open.

Have you considered putting LEDs actually inside the lamp instead of on the outside? The designs you have are sick, though. But I probably still wouldn't do it.

1) ill upload one when i can

3)that maybe too complicated for me lol im only 17 and dont have a lot of knowledge about electrical. maybe you should try that out then post a how-to

about the door panel, its under the door panel. when the door opens it will turn on lighting up the ground. and when closed, it turns off.

lol i just relized the back doors dont have lights on the panel after owning it for a year

and my uncle used to have red underglow, he never got pulled over or anything

3) I'm not pro at electrical work, either! Just an idea.

State police where I live are crazy.

Like, I have seen 3 cruisers behind a pulled-over car. Do you REALLY need that much backup for one dude?

I just recently started to add things to my avalon...here is my list

5000k HIDs (pure white with no blue or yellow, i didnt want blue in my headlights its actually harder on the eyes and 8000k hids put out 25% less lumans than 5000k. It does look nice but not worth it.
LEDs in the license plate (looks real good they were 7 dollars.
35% tint on the 4 windows and 15% on the back. Classy looking

I wanted to order LEDs for the inside of the car but i started thinking that if someone had to turn the light on for whatever reason while im driving then it would be really hard to see while driving.

Also im gonna order Nokya yellow bulbs for my fog lights but like koG i also have an xls so fogs are stock.

The cut off for hids in our cars isnt the best but its not aweful. Iv never been flashed before

I don't think turning the lights on would be an issue. I mean, it's a distraction at night if you turn on the overhead light. But not a huge deal. With the LEDs, you wouldn't need the overhead light, and it shouldn't affect your vision of the road.

I could just buy OEM XLS fogs, but I think I might go to a junkyard and grab them from an XLS and pick up some headlights too, and attempt(key word) to retrofit them with projectors.

=D

Unfortunately, no junkyards nearby that have a 2nd gen avalon have any lights on them at all. D: Curses.

I got 5000k on my Avalon also. I parked 20 feet away from a parked car back bumper and aimed the light to the bumper. I haven't gotten flash yet and I have HIDs for almost 5 years now. You can get eyelids for the headlights to get better cut offs.

You had them cut off at the top of the car's bumper, or like the center of the bumper?

My decisions

Been a while since I've posted to this thread.

Due to the almost VIP-looking nature of the Avalon, I've decided a few things.

1) I put in white/bluish bright LEDs for my plates, but I think I want straight white ones
2) I'm going to get a real "clean" white color going on from my headlights + fogs
3) I want droopy/sleepy eyelids.
4) Clear-corner headlights
5) Maybe a little bit of tint. I'm not big into darkdarkdark windows. A little bit would be nice. =D
6) 18" wheels to fill the wells
7) 1.5" lower / evening out the suspension. I think I need a new suspension anyway.

Maybe something silly like a badge on the back that changes the "XL/XLS" to "VIP" =D

Then drive reaaaaaaaaaal slow.
