Driver Seat Back Support/Comfort - Anyone Else Have a Problem?

We've had a '97 Avalon for years. It's been great to drive.

I just got a 2002 Avalon XLS. Since driving it my back is killing me. It's like I get no lower back support and the lumbar doesn't catch in the right place.

If I take a towel, fold it until it's about 1/4" thick, then make an 'L' to where I'm sitting on part, and the other is on my back about 1/3 up, it takes care of the problem.

I'm 6' tall and way overweight (250 lbs).

Anyone have any suggestions on seat settings? If I have to I'll figure out a seat cover but I'd rather get the seat set.

Could there be a problem with the seat? Or just a problem with its owner?

Rather than an ugly cover, consider adding more support inside the cover on the seat back. If not something within your ability, find an auto upholstery shop.

Bob:

Same issue here. I am 6', 210lbs. Three low back surgeries. I do find the low back/lumbar support very lacking in this car. Even my wife, who has had no low back problems, finds that her low back hurts in the Avalon after an extended period of driving. We had a Saab 9-5 prior to this and the driver seat was better (the pax seat sucked in the Saab though).

Love everything else about the the Avalon.

Easy fix, just get the seats from the 97 Avalon and put it into your 2002 Avalon. I have no problem whatsoever with my 2001 Avalon seats and I'm 220lbs.
