2nd Generation Jack Storage

Does anyone know the proper way the jack is suposed to be stowed in the trunk of this 2000 Avalon? The manual is not very clear. I search this forum and found no wright ups on the jack. I am getting a rattling in the right rear when I go over bumps in the road. I found the jack was loose. No matter which way I put the jack in, it will not latch firmly. I can get it to clamp in a certain way, but it seems it is easily dislodged and will probably begin rattling again.

It would be great if someone never had the jack out and could shoot a photo of its original position.

Thanks in advance for any input.

The jack of my 03 (same gen as yours) goes in on its side, and gets screwed like lifting to secure it in place. Perhaps your tools aren't clipped to the underside of the large hardboard panel covering the spare.

The pics in my OM are pretty clear. If yours aren't, try looking at the '03 OM at toyota.com, starting at page 241.

Thanks TedL, I went to the Toyota webpage but they must be having some difficulties with their site. I tried to veiw the owners manuals and got an error? I'll try back later.

I did find the lug wrench loose inside the spare well, I placed it back in its designed clip on the hardboard.

The clip that holds the jack was bent down a little, I adjusted this and the jack seems to clip into place a little more securely.

I've noticed the rattling is about 90% better, but if I go over a rough place in the road it still rattles some?
