OXYGEN SENSOR 2001 AVALON warrenty

I read that Toyota will replace some defective Oxygen sensors on
Avalon' s and extended the warranty
I read there is a letter from Toyota confirming this .
Does anyone know if this is true ?
If yes ---is there a location on net I can find and print

My 2001 Avalon has 54,00 thousand miles and a bad sensor
Bank 2 Sensor1
If my information is incorrect and no letter exists about extended warranty on the sensors-----can anyone help with location and replacement instructions
Sincerely
Richard

Interesting! I had the Bank 2 Sensor 1 (Toyota called it an "air/fuel" sensor) replaced back in 2006 at 39K miles. Would love to find out if they had a TSB on it and should not have charged me $350!!

PS Just sent Toyota an email inquiry - will report back on what they say.

Edit: To quote a famous politician "I mis-spoke myself." My bad sensor was on Bank 1 against the firewall - that's why it was $350. The Bank 2 sensor is an easy DIY job as ChiTDI points out below.

Bank 2 sensor 1 is right in front when you open the hood. You see it when changing the oil filter ( it's in the exhaust manifold and has wires coming from it), but let's find out about the TSB and/or Toyota's response to bobflood's email first.

B2 S1 Sensor

Thank you for reply

Found Sensor---- 22 Metric deep socket to remove from Manifold
Snipped wire to get metric deep socket on

Counter clockwise of course ------turned easily
Kept turning and turning only 6 threads on replacement after 30 full 360 turns------- obvious something was stripped.
I have been told stripping of sensor common on Toyota V6 engines
Right from factory

I called an old mechanic friend in PA told him about sensor being bad- before I could say another word he told me it would likely be stripped
He said Toyota knows of this factory defect on their 2000 era v6 engines

Does anyone have a similar experience?

Richard

mello000 "read that Toyota will replace some defective Oxygen sensors on Avalon' s and extended the warranty I read there is a letter from Toyota confirming this." Where did you read this?

They come out intact with the proper tools and procedures. They can strip if removed improperly but it's seldom.

Toyota did replace 02 sensors that had manufacturing defects causing erroneous trouble codes. Your car wasn't on the list. 02 sensors are wear items just like your spark plugs and they usually start degrading around 90k miles

Csaxon

I read on another forum when I googled --- b2s1 Avalon bad sensor
There was a link for the Toyota letter in the forum but when I went to the link I could not find

Avalon has only 55 K on it
I was stunned when my mechanic friend told me about stripping of this sensor
before I mentioned this occurred

B2S1 Sensor not in exaust where rusting can contribute to problem
