02 avalon belt chirp

I recently bought a 2002 toyota avalon(v6) xl and i had a problem. When i start it, there is a chirping sound coming from the belt area. Also, the sound stops when the car is half warmed up. I didnt notice it when it was hotter in the summer.
-appreciate any help

Its your front accessory belt. I havent had the time to change mine but all you have to do is loosen 2 bolts on the alternator and then there is a bolt infront of the alternators which tightens and loosens the belt. \
Loosen the belt enough to remove it, then slip the new belt on and tighten the belt using the bolt infront of the alternator. then tighten the 2 bolts on the side of the laternator and your done.

Iv had the same issue with my car since i bought it a year and a half ago. I just never remember to replace it in the summer because i dont hear it. and the winter is too c old lol

ooo, is there any chance that the current belt is loose or a bad tensioner pulley. The blet was replaced 34,000 miles ago though.

yupp just loosen the 2 bolts on the alternator and then tighten the belt with the bolt infront of the alternator.

No real need to change the belts unless you see excessive wear. They're usually good to at least 60,000 miles. The cold weather tightens the belts slightly until they warm up. I'd leave it alone unless it really bothers you.

Remove wheel and fender apron seal. Loosen pivot bolt and adjusting bolts slightly. Push or pry PS pump forward toward engine to loosen belt.

what to do

I replaced the belt and tightened it up, but the chirping is still there(a bit less). Also, i noticed that when cold the front door light flickers for a bit and sometims when i am stopped with my headlight and heater on, the headlights flicker as well. I think it is not the belt unless i have to tighten it more, but suspect the alternator for flickering and the chirping.

Tighten the alternator belt in small increments and see if things impove. You said it improved a bit in your previous post "chirping is still there(a bit less)".

got it

i tightened it 25% more and the noise went away(the next day). The flickering i think is the battery because i checked it and its rated 500cca but only puts out 392 so im going to replace the battery. The only question i have is that i recently bought this car and the battery(toyota brand from dealer) is supposed to be covered until 2012, will i get a new battery even though the last owner bought it?

Take your car in to toyota and have the parts department guy check it. They'll either replace it or give you partial credit for a new one. Check your owners manual and get a battery with at least the minimum cca or higher.
Clean all of your battery connection first. Also, flickering lights is a problem with a lot of toyota/lexus vehicles. Do a forum search, there are plentyof threads on the problem.
Toyota initially redesigned some O2 sensors, but, that didn't stop all vehicle flickering. Some thought it was an alternator problem not all. My wifes 2000 Avalon XLS did not flicker until I replaced the original toyota battery (after 7yrs). Now there is a fluttering flicker.
good luck. A new battery may not help.

The chirping did not stop, was good for a few days but is back mainly on colder days. The flickering is also somewhat present on startup because if i see it in the overhead door light but goes away once warmed. Any solutions or updates to help?
