Does $132 on labor for a shift solenoid diagnosis sound right?

Getting an engine light for code p0773 for a shift solenoid valve flashing on the dash around 50% of the time...AAMCO is saying that it will take the an hour and a half to diagnose what is wrong with the valve adding to a total of $132 before they even start working on the problem. Does that sound right or is this just another way for them to cash in on their customers? I have a 2001 Toyota Avalon xls

Ask what they're basing that dollar amount on. I would expect the answer to be from a repair guide (like Chilton's or Toyota factory guides) times their hourly rate. If their answer makes your alarm bells go off in your head - find someone else.

Also ask them if the cost to diagnose the problem can be applied to the cost of the repair. Many shops will, others won't - again, find someone else.

IMO, that is a steep price. Whenever I've had electrical issues dealt with (including a recent A/C compressor clutch relay failure), mechanics worth their salt will usually charge about $75 for an initial diagnostic fee that is put toward the final price of your repair work. $132 is too steep for an initial diagnostic in my book. Go elsewhere.
