Ignition key problem

I have a very strange problem. The ignition key turns without any resistance and the engine wont start. When I removed the starter switch it came off with (a small piece of?) a rod that connected the lock and the starter switch with signs of a crack at the end. Any idea what is it and how to proceed with a fix?
Regards,
AG

steer/ignition problem

Hi.
What you have there is the Toyota Recall: upper steering lock bracket.
That piece is the lock rod, broken. (I have one too.)
Call your dealer/Toyota Corp. for authorization, etc.
Lucky it didn't happen while driving!
Cheers,Jeff
