Wimpy horn replacement

My wife's 2000 Avalon has a really weak horn. In horn lanquage it sounds something like " ahem excuse me- beep" Anyone know of a bolt on replacement that doesn't require any mods?

Which ones did you get and do they mount in the same place as the originals?

In theory, any autmotive horn will work. They're just a 12-volt horn. While they may require different hardware to install, and the wiring connectors might be different, you can pretty much choose one of any car. Junk yards would be a good place to look.

Take a look in the 2nd Gen Highlander forum for a thread titled Beep Beep Horn No More, which offers a DIY using horns for the Camry to replace the existing wimpy horns. Sorry, don't have the link handy, but actually the thread was just commented in the other day so should be on page one or two of that forum.

I never installed a horn, didnt need one as I use my finger more. I'd get a Cadillac horn if I had to.

Finding a better horn is easy BUT the louder ones DO REQUIRE SOME EXTRA WORK! DO not install anything without checking the amperage draw. The wimpy beep beep horns dont use much current so there is no relay and the horn buttons handle the switching OK. You must install a relay if you are going to put anything better in the stock horns place. If you buy a kit they usually include one or you can easily get one at the parts store. I found the Jeep Cherokee's had a great horn so I picked up a few sets at the junkyard for cheap. You can push on a few horn buttons and find something you like.

If you're at the store Fiamm horns are VERY good quality and sound.

I put a set of Bosch air horns on mine. Used the stock horn wiring for the trigger on the supplied relay that came with the kit. Mounted the 2 horns and compressor right up front using one of the stock horn mounts. Pretty trick. Sounds like a Ferrari horn. I get more fingers now instead of snickers from the weak stock horn.
