2nd Generation Cleaning Engine Compartment

Would like to find out how best to clean the engine compartment of my 2000 Avalon XL. I has accumulated dust and dirt since I bought the car new. I have thought of using a steam wand or something of that type but do not want to damage the engine either.

What has worked best for you?

2 to 3 times a year on all my vehicles I run the engine to get it warm, spray it down with Purple Power degreaser, let it stand a few min. but DO NOT LET IT DRY, spray off with power washer. Once dry I shoot entire engine compartment down with 303 Protectant. Keeps everything looking brand new!

Here is a pick of my 2004 Nissan Titan engine compartment

Thanks for the info. Do you keep the engine running the entire time?

No, once warm shut it off. You can substitute Mean Green for Purple Power if your local Wal Mart does not have it also. When you spray the 303 on, make sure you get all rubber/plastic parts extra good as it helps prolong their life as well as making them look new.

I used Autozone engine degreaser first, let it sit for 15 minutes, hose off. Then I use Simple Green and clean it again, and detail with Meguairs.
