2nd Generation Door Lock Problem

I have a 2003 Avalon XLS. At 160,000 I took it to the dealer to have the timing belt and water pump replaced. When I arrived home I found that you could not lock the doors with the key fob. You can open them, but not close them with the fob. In addition the warning beep rings whenever you open the drivers side door and does not stop until you close it, whether the key is in the ignition or not. Could the dealer have done something or is there a reset proceedure that I can do?

Have you ever replaced the batter in the key fob?

I'm stumped. I don't see how the work you had done could have caused this. It sounds like it's an electical or cpu problem.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

There's a lot of computer to your avy, so try disconnecting the battery overnight and then plug it back in the next morning. The key fob battery might also need to be replaced - see your manual for how to do that. Mine was acting up until I put in a new battery, which is easy.

Another thought - there is a steering column recall on our vehicles. The dealer might have done that while in for the other stuff and messed up.
