DIY repair of the rear JBL speaker in Avalon
I am looking at various sources online for the surround foam for my 2000 Avalon's rear JBL 8" speaker (Woofer 86160-AC180, 3.7 Ohm, 26 W).
There are some kits available for around $30 and then there are some sellers on ebay that sell just the foam (or a pair of them) for $5~10 or so.
I would rather order just the foam since there appears to be on difference between the two options apart from the glue and little sticks or something in the kit that costs more. I already have the relevant materials to glue the foam to the speaker.
The only question I still have is regarding the exact size of the foam. One of the kit websites lists their foams dimensions as :
Outer diameter: 7-3/4" (197mm)
Roll outer diameter: 7-1/4" (184mm)
Cone diameter: 6" (152mm)
Inner diameter: 5-1/2" (140mm)
Foam roll width: 5/8" m roll (16mm)
And other options have similar dimension (for JBL 8" speakers), with minor differences. The most important difference appears to be the roll size/width.
If somebody has used this approach to replacing deteriorated foam by buying a kit/foam online, could you share the dimensions of the new foam that worked well?
Thanks.
