windshield wipers stopping in up position

I have a 2004 avalon xls with the rain sensing wipers.
yesterday i noticed that when i had it in auto and it was raining, the wipers would work fine and then would stick in the up position for a second or so until the rain sensing wipers kicked back in when it detected rain. I didnt think to much of it really.

today it was raining and was doing the same thing except this time the wipers will stop anywhere on the windshield....all the way up, at the stop position and inbetween. so when i turned on the manually wipers, they worked fine but when i would set it to off to shut them off, they would stop whereever they were on the windshield. they wouldnt go back to the stop position.

does this sound like i need a new motor?

im not in any rush to fix this because they wipers are still working, i just have to manually set it to off and time it right in the down position

thanks

Had same issues a couple months ago with my '03 Avalon. Solution was a new wiper motor.

Wiper motor

I bought a rebuilt wiper motor and the dealer...yes, the dealer, installed it. I saved $150 on the motor.
