2000 Avalon Front Suspension Strut Rattle Clunking Fixed

Since I utilized this forum so much to diagnose my front end rattle or clunking, I want to give back and provide the forum with my experience.

I just bought a 2000 Avalon with 56k miles and it had a pronounced clunking coming from the passenger side suspension. After doing research on this forum and other forums, I decided to replace the strut mount with a monroe strut mount and bearing. Initially, it seemed as though it was fixed with very light sounds coming from the same area, however it started getting more pronounced as the day progressed and almost came back to the original volume. After many hours of trying to listen to the sound with rollerblades next to the car moving, 2x4 under the tire, stetheoscope, pulling, pushing, and many other ways to identify the noise, I decided to just bite the bullet and buy a new strut, strut mount and bearing.

I ended up buying a kyb strut from my local import parts shop for $96, the strut mount, strut mount bearing, and bumper from the dealership for $101, $42, & $15 respectively. All-in-all, I have zero noise from the suspension. It is fixed and it rides perfect.

Thanks for the input and above is my 2 cents.

Did you replace the mount and bearing twice? Did you replace the driver side too?

Yes

Yeah, I replaced the strut mount and bearing twice. Fortunately, Advanced Auto took back the Monroe strut mount and bearing without a problem.
