2002 Avalon Engine light

I have a 2002 Avalon XL. This week the engine light came on. The code reader comes back with a P0330 circuit bank 2 and a P1135 air/fuel sensor bank 1 fault. I find it odd that all of a sudden I have two errors for unrelated parts (knock sensor and an oxygen sensor). The car runs fine. Do I need to replace both of these parts or is it likely to be a wiring problem?

Some of the more experienced DIYers and Techs may have more of a solid input, but from what I read in the repair manual, the P0330 is more likely a loose knock sensor wire, and the P1135 is an air fuel ratio sensor. You may want to check that knock sensor wire, although if bad it is under the intake manifold and if you get that far, should just replace it, and maybe the two knock sensors themselvs.

On the P1135, sounds more likely than not that you'll have to replace that ari fuel ratio sensor. If you do and decide to go OEM, I do sell to TN members for 30% off MSRP and only charge actual shipping costs plus $2.00 for materials, and etc.

Good luck and hope this information proves to be beneficial.

The two codes are probably not "all of the sudden." The knock sensor code is not generally emissions affecting, so will not turn on the CEL. The A/F sensor is - that failure turned on the CEL and when you went to read the codes you got both. My bank 1 A/F sensor went out at about 40K miles. Unlikely either are wiring faults. If you are not having any knock issues, and your mileage and other performance is OK, just replace the A/F sensor. Bank 1 is the bank at the rear of the engine compartment; the A/F sensor is in the exhaust manifold ahead of the catalytic converter; access to the A/F sensor is a PITA but it is doable as a DIY.

Yeah, it's possible. I'm having the same trouble, but not the second code. 1135 is air/fuel ratio sensor HEATER malfucntion or circuit fault--you might have a short circuit or something. From what I have read the knock sensor is inside the engine near the cylinders. I think knocking can cause serious engine damage.

looks like you need a bank 1 sensor 1 air fuel ratio sensor, i would replace it first, the knock sensor code could have been caused by the air fuel ratio sensor code if the knock sensor code comes make more then likely its the knock sensor wire harness
