I purchased 2004 Avalon Fall of 2010, 90,000 miles. Left dashboard light does not work. Check Engine Light does not work. Previous owner turned driver's seat belt warning light off. How do I fix. I cannot find listing of reminder lights that should be lit up, there seems to be a whole of of dark ones. I was hoping someone has a picture or can make a list of the lights that should appear when I turn the key to on. I replaced Oxygen sensor after Emissions test said that both it and the check engine light were problems. The MIL code disappeared but I still don't see the check engine light when I start. With all the people with check engine lights that won't turn off, maybe I'm the lucky one. Once I find out what bulbs I need, is there a preferred way to replace.
I did a search of the forum and couldn't turn up anything about replacing the dash lights, although I did find this thread in the 1st Gen Avalon forum that talks about it....FWIW. I think you'd be better off doing a search of the Gen 5/6 Camry forum as the probability that this topic has been covered there is much greater. Any differences between your Avalon and a similar generation Camry would only be cosmetic.

Warning light location/behavior is well documented in the owners manual, at least for my '03. Available for free download at manufacturer's web site if you don't have paper copy.
When you get access to the backplane, spend the money and change out ALL the bulbs. Once they start going, others will fail and access is enough of a hassle not to want to do it 2-3 times a year!

I've got the manual and while it lists various "Indicator Symbols" It doesn't tell me where each one is supposed to be. the owner's manual shows 15 different locations, I have a type C dashboard, and I can't figure out which is which beyond the 9 that I have identified. I just want to get it all laid out before is disassemble dashboard. I now realize that both passenger and driver's seat belts don't display and don't chime either. I've tried the chime instructions here for 2004 and up, but they don't work on my car. Maybe they meant 2005 and up. Any help would be appreciated.
It doesn't tell me where each one is supposed to be.
That's a little different from what you wrote that you were looking for in your OP, which was "a list of the lights that should appear when I turn the key to on", which can be compiled by reading the description of when they come on.
Perhaps someone with an '04 with type C IP can take a cell phone out, turn the key to the run position without starting, and click a pic for you. That'll give you location too.
I used wiki answers "change odometer bulb 2002 avalon to get into dash.
Here's the layout.
Top Row-Brake, ABS, Unknown
Second Row-Driver's Belt, Oil, Open Door, Passenger Belt
Third Row-Unknown, Check Engine, Cruise On, Battery, Airbag
Fourth Row-Skid, Trac Off, Headlights
I replaced all using Sylvania 74LL Bulbs. Now it lights up like a Christmas Tree.
I had disconnected the battery overnight, and almost rear ended a guy reprogramming my radio. Better be careful!
Now, how do I turn on the seat chime, really, not just in response to the almost accident.
