Seatbelt Light Question

Hey all, new to the forums, and new to my 2002 Avalon XL. I often drive with things in the front seat, sometimes heavy enough to trigger the passenger light warning. Is there anyway to disable it? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I would definitely not do it myself, at least not without confirming by checking wiring diagrams that it would not disable air bags, but have you tried unplugging the sensor connectors at the seat?

I haven't. I'm not sure where to begin, might you know?

Just a question, but does that light really bother you that much that you need to disable it? I often carry stuff in my car in the front seat and it also triggers the light, but I just ignore it.

It just bugs me is all. Yes, I can live with it if I have to (which I currently am), but I'd rather not.

I'm about 80% sure that unpluging the passenger side seat sensor will disable the passenger side air bag. Better solution, though harder to do, would be to access the back of the insturment cluster and remove the bulb for the indicator light. Never done it in this vehicle, so don't know how big a PITA job it is.
