2nd Generation 2nd Gen ignition/steering column

Hello All,

My name is Tony, with a 2001 Toyota Avalon and i have a couple questions for anyone out there that can help me with this problem. Apparently it seems that i may have to replace the ignition switch housing assembly, because the tumbler inside of the housing unit broke off (the piece thats connected to the ignition switch itself). Well my question is, how do remove the ignition switch bracket/upper support housing assembly from the steering column without replacing the whole steering column? How do you remove the two upper support bolts.

There are 2 Sheer-Off head screws, (meaning when they were tightend to a certain amount the heads pop off)holding ignition lock housing up. The best way to get it off is using a chisel and hammer. Take the chisel and hit the bolts at an angle -working the bolts around. i can usually get a pair of needle nose pliers on them after i knock them loose and then take them out the rest of the way by hand. If your replacing the housing anyways, you can even chisel out some of the old housing away to get at the bolts better. *Disconnect the battery* first since your working around the airbag area.
