cam and crank seals and timing belt
The Toyota dealership near my place showed me what they say is cam and crank seals leaking (the leak is on the back-right hand side of the engine, just below the timing belt assembly cover).
Their recommendation is that since they have to remove a lot of parts, it is advisable to have the timing best, water pump and drive belt changed at the same time due to similar labor involved. My car is at 140K (Avalon, 2000). The first timing belt was changed at around 80K.
Just to replace the cam and crank seals, they say it will cost around $800 (the guy started to day around $600 but changed to 8). In contrast, to have belts and water pump done too, they quoted a bit shy of $1200.
What say you folks? Do the above figures sound reasonable to you? Should I just go for the cam and crank seals only? Also, does that leak in any way endanger the timing belt?
Thanks.
