2003 Avalon clicking noise from rear

Hey Everyone, my first post so please bear with me:

I have a 2003 Avalon with 72K on it. I sometimes, but not always, get a clicking sound from the right rear wheel that increases in frequency as the cars speed increases.

This does not happen all time, and my Toyota dealer told me it was the rear control arm. Since the sound increases with speed, I'm thinking that it might be the rear bearings.

Has anyone else had this problem? The dealer said the rear brakes are fine. I'm just not buying that it's the control arm when it's speed related.

I could be a bearing problem, but you'd have to get the wheel in the air in order to test for a bearing issue. If you get the wheel in the air you can test it by pulling back and forth, grabbing the wheel from different positions (12 o'clock/6 o'clock, 9 o'clock/3 o'clock, etc.), and if it's loose and has play all the way around then it's a bearing problem, but if it's not then it may well be the control arm. BTW, if you have a private mechanic you can take your Avalon to then do that in order to get a second opinion instead of relying on only what the dealer is telling you.
