Air Filter

Hello all,

So I changed the air filter from the oem to the Purolator classic and seemingly getting worse mileage. Does anyone have any preference on air filters(Denso/OEm over the rest Fram, k&n etc). How often should air filters be changed?

I use whatever is on sale when I change and have seen no difference in performance or milage. I replace every 35-40K miles based on how dirty it is; about due again. Interval depends on your driving conditions - more often if heavy duty use or lots of dirt roads - but in no case longer than 50K miles. For me that works out to every 18-24 months.

Besides filtration, there is an issue of sealing tight that drives my choice of filter. I used Puros/Frams for a while and had high Silicon readings in my oil analyses. Seems the hard plastic frame gets very rigid in the cold and doesn't seal to the airbox as well as it should.
Went to OEMs with the felt edge and the problem vanished.

I check the air filter every 10K, if dirty it gets replaced. I use the WIX brand which are 100% oem equivalent. There is also a website online that sells Wix filters in bulk and has free shipping over $50 spent. I buy all my air filters and the cabin filters from them PM me for the site.
