Question NASCAR = ABS, VSC and TRAC OFF ? 03 Avalon XLS

Hi Everyone,

So here is the Story… I started off by needing to replace my Intermediate steering shaft on my 2003 Avalon with 125,000 miles. My buddy said he’d give me a hand and since he had a garage and I live in New England , I was like heck ya! So we followed the Toyota Factory service manual which says to remove the steering column. So we did that and proceeded to remove the old steering shaft and install the new one. While I was installing the new one ( I found this out later) My buddies son (5 year old) was playing NASCAR with my steering column on his workbench.

So I installed the steering column, then while installing the steering wheel I couldn’t get the clock spring to center. So I finished installing covers etc. I reconnected the battery and turned it on. Well the Airbag, VSC and TRAC OFF lights where all on. Also the Horn didn’t work and neither did the cruise control.... I immediately realized that my buddies son Trashed my clock spring! Thanks! Long and short of it my buddy felt really bad and said he’d buy me another one...

So I get the new clock spring (Spiral cable) and install it. Now the Airbag light is off, but the ABS, VSC and TRAC OFF lights are on. The horn worked as well as the cruise control. I realize that codes don’t clear right away so I gave it a week to see if the ABS, VSC and TRAC OFF would clear.... They did not clear.. So I went to Advance Auto, borrowed a code reader and I didn’t get 1 single code! As a last ditch effort, I removed the positive terminal for 20 minutes and reconnected it about 3 days ago..

Well the ABS, VSC and TRAC OFF lights are still on!!! Any help on where to start looking?

-Steve

So 176 Views - no insight? Well my OEM Service manuals arrive tomorrow from Helm Inc. So once I have this one fixed. I will post what caused the problem.....

I do not know about Toyota, but when those lights appeared on my Nissan Titan, I ended up finding it was a bad wheel sensor. I really don't see how that applies here though, thats why I did not respond.
