How to: Check ATF level

Okay. I'll admit it. I'm a dummy. Surely Toyota included a "how to" check the level of my tranny fluid in my Avalon Owner's Manual. But I've looked and looked and looked and I can't find it.

To check the motor oil level, you kill the engine. Same for the tranny?

The Owner's Guide for my beat up old Ford pickup has clear instructions. Get the tranny up to normal oprating temp by driving at least 20 miles. Stop on level ground. Parking brake on. Shift thru all the gears, stopping for a second or two in each gear until the gear engages. Put the tranny in park, and with the engine idling, check the ATF level.

If you have to add ATF, then you can't check the ATF level again until after all the ATF drains out of the dipstick tube - about a half hour.

Can I use the Ford instructions for my Avalon?
